choo-choo!

Of course Poppy had a great time at the birthday party (just look at all of those cupcakes that needed to be eaten)!

......................

Then on Sunday I had a wedding shower to go to, so Marc decided to take Poppy on a steam engine ride.  Poppy is absolutely obsessed with trains.  When he told her that they were going on a train ride, all we heard for days was "Daddy, Poppy CHOO-CHOO!!!!"

IMG_1594

The report was that she absolutely loved it.  She's had a smile glued to her face ever since they came home and she keeps telling me about how daddy took her on a choo-choo and it went "puff, puff, ding-dong, ding-dong!"  They've already got their next trip planned for in the fall.

And sadly, today was my last day of summer vacation and tomorrow I head back to work.  This is also the end of my blogging-every-single-day-project that kicked my butt.  I absolutely love the fact that I have every single day (except for when we were at the beach and maybe one other day) of our vacation documented, but man, that was hard work!  We will now continue with our weekly, or whenever the heck I feel like it blogging.

crafty

Whenever we have a birthday party to go to, we stop at the toy store down the street from our house to do our shopping.  They wrap all of their gifts in brown craft paper and colorful bows.  Then once we get home, it's Poppy's turn to add her own creative touch...

She didn't get too much painting done- she was more interested in dumping out the paint onto the plate "Poppy do!  Poppy do!!!" (her new favorite statement that we get to hear about a million times a day)

She had so much fun at Henry, Sidney, and Amelia's birthday party and especially loved singing Happy Birthday all day long.

Poppy had a very exciting morning the other day.  First we went to my aunt's dance shop to get Poppy's first ballet outfits!  She was so excited when she saw all of the leotards and skirts and tights - it was really cute.

Then it was off to the art gallery with my mom for lunch...

singing

I finally captured a video of Poppy singing.  Have I ever told you how this girl LOVES to sing?  She sings all.day.long.  The only time she doesn't sing is when she is around strangers or if the video camera is out.  One of her favorite times to read and sing is when I take a shower and get ready in the morning.  She loves to sit either in her rocking chair or her bed and then read and sing away.  So today I kept the flip video camera next to the door so I could secretly record her and it worked!  The first song she is singing (her current fave) is Are You Sleeping - Brother John and then she sings Twinkle, Twinkle.  Oh, and the book she is "reading" is a lullaby book with the lyrics to the songs.

playdate

We had a playdate this morning with Poppy's friend, Claire.  We met them at the children's museum, which is one of Poppy's favorite places, but today she was unusually shy and extra serious for some reason.

After much anticipation, Poppy finally got to meet her new cousin, baby Louis, yesterday.  All day long she kept asking if we were going to "Baby Youeee" yet, and kept asking where Aunt Jessica's (aka Je-uh) baby was.  And then we get there and she could care less about him, and the only thing she was concerned with was what he had hiding under his blankie.

Tonight we stopped by this cute little children's concert at a nearby school.  Poppy was digging the music, but I'm pretty sure the ice cream was the real highlight for her.

Chowing down on her superman ice cream sucker, or in Marc's words "the worst choice in ice cream ever."

more beach

This past beach trip went pretty much exactly like the last one - lots of water, sand and laziness.

.................

Yelling at the seagulls...

Creating their own sand "chairs"...

More fun with the red wagon...

The award for the best beach toy of the year goes to this pink elephant watering can from the dollar store.  She never let it out of her sight and every kid that came up to visit immediately gravitated towards it...

IMG_8179

We had one day of crummy weather so we took a little trip to the aquarium.  The expression on her face in this pic cracks me up - "Seriously mom, you're going to take my picture again? That's so lame."

Wave crashing was a big hit this week...

And so was playing with daddy...

So basically, we had a really good time at the beach...

peachy

We came back from the beach yesterday afternoon, and first thing this morning we were back in the car to go peach picking.

It's all about the quality control...

(we'll be spending the day tomorrow chopping and freezing those for smoothies - peach smoothies are her current fave)

Eating picking peaches is serious business.

Beach pics coming up soon- I've managed to get addicted to the True Blood series (both the books and dvd's) and I can't do anything until I've finished the first season (which will hopefully be tonight).

sandbox

Hanging at the neighborhood sandbox this morning...

IMG_8065(you wouldn't know it by the look on her face, but this sandbox is her new fav place)

I'm off to meet my newest nephew (hopefully I'll post pics of him later tonight) and then I'm meeting up with bookclub to go see The Time Traveler's Wife (so excited!).  Tomorrow morning we're headed back to the beach for a week.  Peace out.

And then can you guess where we went for dinner?

If you guessed the state fair, then you were right!

IMG_8004

As soon as we pulled into the parking lot, she saw the giant ferris wheel and immediately starting saying "Poppy on dat!  Poppy on!"  So we found the smaller ferris wheel and Marc took her on it.  I couldn't believe she wasn't scared and that she actually like it.

growing baby

It's happening right before our eyes.  Our baby is growing up.  Almost an inch in just the past month!

IMG_7941

We went to the grocery store today and now as soon as we pull up to Wegman's, she starts saying "Choo-choo and moon mama!" (because she loves to watch the train they have suspended from the ceiling, and we get a balloon each time on the way out).  The last 3 or 4 balloons haven't quite made it through the front door before popping, so this time as soon as she had her balloon around her wrist, she started saying "No pop Poppy's moon, no pop, all done pop."  Over and over, the entire way home.

IMG_7921But as we know, all good things must come to an end...
