Sam received this outfit for his birthday last year and I immediately loved the "vintage" vibe it had.  Brown, orange and blue feels so eighties to me.

And then when I was going through old pictures for my parents anniversary album, I just about fell over when I found this picture...
That's me (apparently learning how to use the potty!) with my neighbor, Brent.  Brown, orange and blue.  Circa 1980.

We've been spending a lot of time at the science museum lately.  They have an awesome play area that has tons of activities for both Poppy and Sam.  This is one of Sam's faves...

 After lots of playtime and lunch, we always head upstairs to do some exploring.  Last week Sam started growling at all of the dinosaur skeletons.  I have no idea where he got this from, which makes it absolutely hilarious...

 Poppy and Sam decided to play "beauty shop" together...

  Cracks me up that Sam was such a willing participant.

This morning...

 These two play together for at least an hour a day in Poppy's room.  It makes me so happy to see them playing like this...

And this is Poppy's "work station".  She loves to sit there and work on making cards and letters for her loved ones...

Check out this physique... love those chubby legs...

.............

Poppy and I made our annual king's cake for mardi gras.  You are supposed to put a trinket like a plastic baby in the cake for a lucky person to find.  Last year I didn't have a plastic baby on hand, so I used a nut instead.  You can read about how excited Poppy was to find a nut in her piece of cake here.  This year, I happened to pick up a pack of little plastic babies and I let Poppy stick one of them in the dough before we baked the cake.  She was so excited that someone was going to find it.  She declared that whoever found the plastic baby would win a big hug and kiss from her.  And I told her that if she found it in her piece, she would get a big hug and kiss from everyone.

She was really excited to cut into this cake...
And then as soon as we cut into, she started getting really nervous about someone actually eating the baby. And then we all started getting nervous about the fact that little plastic baby might have melted into the cake.  We all nervously took little nibbles until.... I FOUND THE PLASTIC BABY IN MY PIECE!!!  I was immediately rewarded with a big hug and kiss and we all ate the rest of our cake stress-free...
 Happy Mardi Gras!

birthday season

February and March is birthday season for us.  Poppy has about 10 birthday parties coming up.  And she's pretty excited about each one.

On Saturday we celebrated Carter's 4th birthday...

 {Sam really enjoys his dessert.}

After dinner and cake, it was time to be serenaded by these two.  Courtney and Tucker just started taking guitar lessons together.  They both did a great job!  Poppy was in awe of the little concert they gave in their living room...

Then Tucker and Poppy decided to switch instruments and start a band.  And I think they even made a pact to teach each other how to play their instruments.  Should be interesting!

...........

On Sunday we went to the Strong Museum of Play with Ty and his family...
{a photo-op at Sesame Street}

{a photo-op as Marc and Sam climbed the side of a skyscraper!}

and check out this pic of Marc and Poppy from 2 years ago...

 {The Berentstein Bear Country was Poppy's favorite place to play}

{This kitchen was Sammy's favorite place to play.  He was by far the littlest kid in there and he held his own and cooked up a storm for close to an hour!}

Weekday fun

I found this little indoor soccer game that I thought would be a fun addition to our family game nights...
It was all fun and games until Lola burst onto the scene and knocked over both Poppy and Sam trying to rip up the ball.  Now we just have to make sure Lola is out of the room and the kids have a ton of fun playing soccer together.  Well, Sam is still trying to get the hang of the whole "kick with your feet!" thing, but he still has fun...

Sam helping me unload the dishwasher.  Yep, we start 'em young with the chores around here...

................

Poppy: Sam, I have to go poop.  Wanna come with me?
Sam: grunt.  feet pitter patter down the hall.
Poppy:  Look mom!  Sam and I are poopin' together!

(Sam wasn't really going poop on the potty, but he was having fun keeping his sister company!)

Marc took Poppy on her annual sled ride to school.  She was so excited...

Sam and I stayed home and read his favorite books.  He is absolutely obsessed with these two pop-up books.  One is an Elmo book and the other one is Trucks.  Sam doesn't talk yet, but he loves trying to make the "ucccckkkkk" sound to let us know he wants to read the trucccckkkk  book.

He follows me around all day long with these books and begs me to read them (which I usually happily do, but I do tend to get sick of them when we've already read them 20x and it is only 10:00 in the morning) and cries and whines when I try to do anything (oh, like start a load of laundry, wash dishes, GET DRESSED, make lunch).  I remember going through this phase with Poppy.  She had these three board books that all involved singing songs while reading them.  She did the same thing, begged and whined all day to read them.  And when she wasn't looking, I would hide them behind the pillows on the couch.  I felt bad doing it but for my sanity's sake, it was necessary.  And now I find myself doing the same with Sam and these pop-up books.

Happy Valentine's Day!

Yesterday, we spent the day getting all of Poppy's valentine's ready for school.  She was so excited to pass out her bookmarks...
 We also made these yummy cookies and Poppy packaged them up and passed them out to grandparents...

This morning we were all greeted by chocolates and flowers at the breakfast table.  Then as soon as we dropped Poppy off at school, Sam and I whipped up a heart shaped cake.  Sam was not too happy when I didn't let him eat this cake at 10:00 this morning, but that's understandable.

Then it was off to the Korea House for dinner and back to our house for that cake...
 Poppy checking out her loot from school...
 And how sweet is it that Marc helped Sam make me a valentine - my favorite gift of the day!!!

weekend fun

Poppy stayed home from school for the first time ever on Friday!  She started complaining the night before about her cheeks hurting her and she felt warm and was really emotional.  She woke up pretty much back to normal on Friday, but just to be on the safe side I kept her home.  By about 11am I was looking for some new things to do to keep both kids busy so I whipped up this activity I found on pinterest...

It was just a ziploc bag filled with a teaspoon each of baby oil and two colors of water soluble paint and then you double seal the bag with tape...
They thought it was super cool- for about 2 minutes!!!

.............

Saturday morning, the boys stayed home and Poppy and I headed out for a day of fun together.  First we had music class and a concert at suzuki strings.  Then we went out for a quick lunch together and headed off to West Seneca to see a high school production of Beauty and the Beast.  Poppy was super excited to see this musical and couldn't believe we were able to get a ticket to the sold out show.  And then of course as soon as it started and she saw the beast on stage she said that she was ready to go home!  After a while she relaxed and was able to enjoy the show, right up until the last scene when she hid under my coat!  She is a hoot, this girl...
 After the show she said that she really loved it, and then fell asleep about 2 minutes later...

Meanwhile, daddy introduced Sammy to the art of fingerpainting....

Marc said he really liked painting and even the cleaning up part...

Then we came home just in time to help daddy make some chocolate pudding...

...............

Sunday was nice and relaxing, just hanging out playing all day...
 Sam accidentally knocked this tower over as soon as I snapped the picture and then he just kept looking at the aftermath with this look on his face, like he was about to burst into tears...

And now we're getting ready for some Valentiney fun...
