Poppy update!!!

I was kinda moping around the house Saturday morning with the prospect of a day's worth of housework hanging over my head, when I decided to check the mail. Oh boy, did my frown turn upside down in the flash of a second! Waiting for us was a small package from our agency with updated pictures of Poppy that were taken last week. Scribbled on a little note card dated May 16, it says "Han Yeong is healthy, happy, very shy. Eats and sleeps well. Good baby." You can definitely tell she is shy by looking at the pictures. She is clinging to her foster mother in most of them. Here is my favorite one...

Good News!

Our SW said we could start stalking our local US.CIS office towards the middle of May to check on the status of our I600. For those of you that have been following along since the beginning of our adoption journey, you might recall the coveted I600a that I waited for all summer long last year. Well the I600a is the "Application for Advance Processing of Orphan Petition". We finally received approval for that at the end of August. Once we were matched with Poppy, we filed an I600, which is the "Petition to Classify Orphan as an Immediate Relative". Well guess what folks, within just a few short weeks we have the highly coveted I600 approval!!! Technically we don't have it in our hands yet, but I called our local office to check on the status today and almost fell off my chair that they actually answered the phone, and then I almost started crying at my desk when she told me that our paperwork was approved earlier today. That happened much quicker than I expected! But don't get too excited - I don't know if that means Poppy will be coming home any sooner. Next week our I600 will be sent to the National Visa Center (NCV) so that her visa can get started. This could take up to 2 months. I will keep you updated as I stalk the NCV on a daily basis.

One of the most common questions I get about our adoption and specifically the switch to Korea from Vietnam, is whether we have to travel to S. Korea to get her. The answer is no. You do have the option to travel to pick your child up, but unfortunately, due to our current financial status, we simply cannot afford a trip to Korea at this time. Instead we are paying an additional fee to our agency to have her escorted to JFK airport in NYC where we will meet her. Realizing that we will not be able to pick our daughter up in Korea and meet her foster mother was very difficult for both of us. We do, however, have every intention of taking Poppy on a trip to Korea when she is old enough to understand and appreciate a trip back to her birth country.

And finally, today's quilt squares are from Marc's cousin, Danielle, and Aunt Kathy.

Shower photos!

My friends from work had a beautiful shower for us on Sunday. It was a lovely morning (except for the weather) filled with great food and even better company. The amount of love and support everyone has for Poppy is unbelievable and it brings me to tears just thinking about it. Not only is she already loved by so many people, but she is also going to be spoiled rotten because she got some of the cutest outfits and coolest toys around. Here are just a few highlights...

Back to business

Remember how I mentioned I was on cloud 9 about a month ago? When we got Poppy's referral? Well I'm still there, on cloud 9. I'm just so excited to finally meet her that I can barely think about anything else. As a result of being in this state of bliss for over a month now, my house is an absolute mess, the library is a mess, and I need to get my act together. I started an enormously long list of things I need to get organized in the library before I take my maternity leave. Speaking of maternity leave, I'm totally freaking out that someone else is going to be doing my job next year. I get anxiety just thinking about it. But that's normal, right? Anywho, this house needs to get completely organized within the next 3 months. I mean every kitchen cabinet and drawer, my closet, the basement, everything! Anxiety. Breathe. Saturday will be spent making a major shopping trip to Ikea. Hopefully we'll come home with some organizational items. And then Sunday is our much-anticipated shower from my friends at work. Super excited. I'll definitely post some pictures.

And now it's back to the quilt, which is in the process of being made by my aunt Joni as we speak. I had to decide what size and thickness I wanted it to be. That was a tough decision because I don't know what size bed she is going to have. I finally decided to go with a "lap quilt". I plan to keep it folded up on her soon-to-be-made-by-my-dad window seat. What little girl doesn't need a window seat in her bedroom? And what little girl wouldn't love to snuggle up with a blanket full of love from all the people that so eagerly waited for her arrival?

This quilt square is from Sarah's daughter (who is almost the same age as Poppy) and Sarah's niece.

And this square is from Sarah's mom. I absolutely love them both!

Birthday Fun!

This is going to be a week of celebrations! We began by celebrating my MIL's birthday on Saturday with a big turkey dinner at our house. Then on Sunday it was off to my parents for my birthday dinner with my family. After we blew out the candles on my cake, my SIL surprised me with a little cake to celebrate Poppy's birthday, which is coming up on Wednesday.

My day today started off with a cake that my co-workers brought in, followed by flowers that Marc had sent to work and a cookie bouqet from my MIL. So far it's been a pretty fun week, and there's still more to come...
