Reading

One of Poppy's all time favorite books has always been "Time For Bed" by Mem Fox.  It was at this time last year that we introduced it to her and she loved it so much that we had to read it to her multiple times every night before bed.  After months of it being at the top of her list, it eventually became lost in the shuffle and made its way onto the bookshelf (books on the bookshelf don't get read much, Poppy prefers to have her good books in piles all over the house).  Anyways, months went by and then about 2 weeks ago I pulled it off the shelf and started reading it to her and it was like she found an old lost friend.  Within 24 hours, she had memorized every word in this book, and lately, when she wakes up in the morning, she has been turning her light on and sitting in her rocking chair reading it aloud to herself, instead of coming into our bed to snuggle.  Marc finally caught her with the video camera.  (And I usually sing this book to her, instead of read it to her...)

And speaking of Mem Fox (one of my all time favorite children's authors), the last few nights I have been reading a great book by her called "Reading Magic: Why Reading Aloud to Our Children Will Change Their Lives Forever".  I highly recommend this book to any parent.  It has great advice about doing read alouds, as well as activities and booklists.

OK, first... I adore her voice. Oh my goodness. Second, I loved the moment where she must have spied Marc or something cause she just *stops* and stares and then continues on. That made me guffaw. Literally. And lastly, the closing dialogue between Marc and Poppy is just too sweet for words...

I smiled the WHOLE TIME watching this. And I'm with CCL - loved when she stopped and stared... and then carried on. Such a cutie-pie.

Awwwww! How adorable, I love her Goodnight at the end. And how sweet that she said the Mouse is Daddy and Poppy. Love it!

oh how sweet!!! we really enjoyed that. ruby grabbed her 3 essentials for book reading: blanky, "ooh ooh ahh ahh" and her plug. she kept saying "hi poppy" throughout the video. i think she was confused as to why poppy wasn't saying hello back. she's so used to skyping!

Poppy can start doing book readings at the local library or Barnes&Noble with those skills!

We still read It's Time for Bed also but mostly Michael does it from memory for Colin. That was the book you gave Colin for his homecoming and it still is one of his fav, although it is quite weathered at this point.

Go Poppy!

Oh my goodness, that was the sweetest thing. Poppy's singing voice is just adorable and I love how she strings out the "It's time fooooooor bed" part. Hee hee. I also noticed that halfway through she looked up and stopped but then decided it didn't matter that she was being filmed and carried on. And the last part with her daddy was just lovely. It does crack me up that she refers to herself in the third person :)
